Revisiting Raag Kapi Through A Song In Ulidavaru Kandanthe

Kanna muchhe madila aache
Daati hode belakannu
Hari hoda adentha baanu
Kaanadenu hetta hennu

Onagide kai beralu
Kai tuttanu nee mareyalu
Naa deeti hode

Naa haariro ee bhanu...
Amma... Ee jeeva ninthide,
usirata sagide
Karanava naa ninage
hege helale....?

Keladene seridenu
Kempugiro ee mugilanu
Hari hoda adenta banu
Kanadenu hetta hennu

Beleda maravondu, tanna beranna
Taane kaana bayaside
Mugila kaanuva hakkiya mariyondu
Thayiya goodanu araside

Putta hejje sulivu, nee kandare ulivu
Matte garbhake, hogo bedike
Prasava vedane irada januma enage

Hudukide hetta kangalu
Swara seralu, mana mugilu
Naa jinugi bande

Thayiya appuge beleda maravagi
Ninthalle thale baagi,
ee bhoomi meeti
Swargavanne matte chiguriside

Hakkige banagi
haralu varavagi
Madilalle agasa thorithu
Ninna mamatheya varavagi

Serida ee hottige
Kai beralina aa tuttige
Aa devarige sharanu

The lyric is a beautiful poem, taking you to higher emotional levels of motherly love and affection. The analogy of a tree finally wishing to see its roots and the birds returning to the nest where they were nourished and taught to fly are impeccable.

Ajaneesh Lokanath, the maestro behind the mellifluous music of Kanna Muchhe song from Ulidavaru Kandanthe film has tuned the lyric to Raag Kapi. I had posted few songs in Raag Kapi in an old post on this blog. He has been perfect in choosing this Raag as this is one Raag that can capture the essence of a mother's love and care for her child, and the child's pangs of desperation to meet his mother.

Melodious Song From Ulidavaru Kandanthe - Kanna Muchhe

Papanasam Sivan's Enna Thavam Seyda Nee Yashodha is probably, the prototype composition in Kapi. The music director of Ulidavaru Kandanthe has done a wonderful job in the movie by composing this song in Kapi. The boldness of Shankar Mahadevan's voice (italic stanzas in the lyric) and Vani Harikrishna's (non-italic stanzas in the lyric) elegant mood-captivating rendition has created magic. This song will certainly linger long in the minds of listeners.
